A picture is worth a 1000 words

...especially if the photographer is Shelly of Elle M. Photography. (She is the photographer for the Du interiors website).

Family pictures taken by a professional make all the difference in the world and everyone should have a Family Picture Day.

This summer we did just that, another item off my bucket list. Of course we wanted Shelly to be our photographer  and on a marvelous summer day she brought her camera and did her thing. We have selected one of her many beautiful photos to be on our holiday cards.

My goal for you and me is to get organized so we can enjoy the holiday season without stress that, too often, happens this time of the year. In that spirit, I have asked Joelle Mayo of Organize Portland to share her organizing tips for the month with Du interiors. Here is what she has to say:

  • If you like to send holiday cards with a family photo, schedule a photographer this month. I highly recommend building your card online so that it is ready to submit once the 40-50% off sales start arriving in November. And here's  a tip to lessen holiday frustration! Update your address book well ahead of putting things in the mail or sending online. Your friends and family will wonder why you are so relaxed instead of frenzied!

    • Free up your time and money as the holidays roll around by beginning to buy or make your gifts now, especially those for teachers, fellow workers and your gift cards.

    • Fall is also the ideal time to organize your basement/attic/garage so you won't be digging to find that holiday decor stuff you put away. When winter arrives, you will be ready to greet the season with joy and excitement.

Please don't forget to check our GET ORGANIZE! blog.
It talks about revamping, decluttering, and beautifying your closet to get ready for the holiday season.

And if you are good at organizing at your home, share you tips with us!

    Happy October!

Couple builds dream home in Walla Walla

Melissa & Mike visiting the construction site... a marvelous winter landscape! The calendar years of 2020/2021 have been one of the most challenging and unpredictable years of my life. On the other hand, they have also been one of my best professionally. The saying time flies when you are busy is true! My last blog was in November! Therefore, I am enjoying taking a break and sharing with you my pleasure in having had an opportunity to meet some wonderful new clients and catch up with existing clients. They kept me busy with consultations, renovations, new contractors and problem-solving with people working and teaching their children at home. You might think the interval during new construction won't have much of an effect on interior design, but decisions made from initial drawings and during construction have a profound effect on home decor. They set the groundwork for client satisfaction, such as this project. As the point person for a couple building their third (and fi...

    Oh, the joy of accessories!

Du interiors project A person can have a lovely home with nice things and it can look attractive but the overall effect is that nothing really grabs the eye.  What could make the pleasantly ordinary come alive are well-placed accessories. It is with decorative objects that a home gets its personality. Their color, form, texture and design transform a room from OK to “wow”. Du interiors It could be achieved by adding just one oversize art (bathroom below),  one interesting object (the metal display  ladder blanket below),  or a collection of things that are distinctive and eye-catching like the 3 candle-wall sconces in the bedroom below. For some, adding that out-of-the-ordinary vase or arrangement or piece of art does the trick.  Du interiors Master Bedroom Du interiors Bedroom Du interiors Bedroom Objects give rooms personality.  You may be able to achieve this yourself. Or with the right interior designer you would b...
