Can the CLOSET come out to play?

Hello, Month of May! Walk-in closets for kids?

We’ve all heard of people who want to get out of the closet but some – like our children – want in!
The latest buzz is about children and teens getting custom walk-in closets in their home – courtesy of their parents, of course!

Be the first in your social network to do something so current on the interior design frontlines.
Before you turn away from this idea, think again. We personalize our children’s spaces – study, play, bedroom, but what about creating an amazing space in their closet?  It might inspire them so much they’ll keep their things neat and organized.

While researching and designing closets for my clients this month, here’s what the design community is saying about the benefits:
We are seeing a 30%  increase in organizing children’s spaces… adding such things as boutique-style shoe racks, designer wallpaper, velvet-lined jewelry drawers, baskets, rods and velvet cover hangers. Space to show off prized athletic shoes.

Is this too spendy? Does not have to be.

Think playfull versions of their parent’s walk- in closets!  Use see-through storage items so they can easily find what they want. Or mirrored doors to show off in! Create a theme for the fun of it. If room, add a clothes hamper. There is no reason this can’t start in early childhood and, by using adjustable objects, expand as they do.

Friends and relatives will tell you how clever you are. Guaranteed.

HERE’S WHAT’S NEW IN KITCHEN DESIGN

For those people who like to feel current by following trends, there’s a lot going on in kitchen design to bring excitement and newness to this most productive room in your home.  As an interior designer, I am bombarded with new options for materials, finishes and other ideas this time of year. If you are ready to try something new, consider the following: Matte Black & Grey Finishes. via houzz Kitchen Sink --   What’s “in” now is concrete, stone, copper and granite composite sinks in darker hues of gray, bronze or black. (see picture above) Last year , satin brass made its debut in kitchens and that trend continues in other interior spaces. Useful ideas on choosing a bookcase

Du interiors  Bookcases can be classical, fanciful, functional and personal …they really add to the anatomy of a room. They display your favorite reads as well as framed memories. There are so many options on deciding on the best for your nest. Here are important considerations. What Size Should Your Bookcase Be? The most basic consideration is size. How much space do you have in the room you have in mind? If space is ample, wide bookcases that measure several feet across are a good design idea. However, if room is small, go up! Taller bookcases work in space limitations, if you plan on placing a lot on them. Otherwise, one or more small bookcases would work.  Measure the room before you shop. Oh, the joy of accessories!

Du interiors project A person can have a lovely home with nice things and it can look attractive but the overall effect is that nothing really grabs the eye.  What could make the pleasantly ordinary come alive are well-placed accessories. It is with decorative objects that a home gets its personality. Their color, form, texture and design transform a room from OK to “wow”. Du interiors It could be achieved by adding just one oversize art (bathroom below),  one interesting object (the metal display  ladder blanket below),  or a collection of things that are distinctive and eye-catching like the 3 candle-wall sconces in the bedroom below. For some, adding that out-of-the-ordinary vase or arrangement or piece of art does the trick.  Du interiors Master Bedroom Du interiors Bedroom Du interiors Bedroom Objects give rooms personality.  You may be able to achieve this yourself.
