Have you thought of a staycation?

Summer is sweet even if you never travel to faraway places

Du interiors

As I write this, summer feels like it is taking forever to get here.
But we know it’s on its way or maybe already here by the time you read this.
With trips to Alaska in July and a month in Brazil in August, I have a lot to accomplish before I walk out the door with my family.
A “wants” checklist is a good way to remember what you have to do before summer is here and gone.

I enjoy outings and there are so many I crave.  A day at the beach, a trip to a water park, eating a lobster roll at my favorite clam shack – but what about fun things I can do without ever leaving home? I call it a staycation.

Clean up those deck chairs, treat yourself to a few fluffy new pillows, stack your favorite books and magazines and sip your pet icy drink

String up a hammock
There’s a reason why you see commercials with someone lolling in a hammock. It’s because seeing it swaying in a summer breeze breathes relaxation! For me, it conjurs memories of growing up in tropical weather. If you don’t have trees or a pergola to hang your hammock, look for those that have a freestanding frame.

I checked this from my list a month ago!:-)

Add an outdoor feature that calls to you
A pizza oven, fire pit, movie screen…any of these keep you outdoors for hours. Most can be accomplished on a variety of budgets.

A fire pit is on my list and a movie screen on my boys…

Try an upcycling project
How about taking a fresh look at what you already have and creating something new without spending a dime?
Here we show an old coffee table from a flea market with a fresh coat of turquoise paint, an extra glass cabinet door from IKEA that became a tray for summer. Add indoor blankets and pillows and bright summer colors and what you end up with is c o z y!

Dive in and remodel
Wait no longer to get the bath or kitchen you want. Summer is a good time to do this. You can set up a temporary outdoor kitchen while it’s being done.

Summer is a time to relax – so simplify
Cut the clutter, streamline your stuff and make room for what you really enjoy.
See ideas….
This is a must project for me this summer.

What are your summer “wants”?
Cheers to your checklist.

Dulce’s Tips:

Tile – three things to consider when tiling a wall

Thick or thin? Floor tile is ok, but lighter and thinner wall tiles are easier to work with. If you use slab versus tile, be sure to use a 2cm instead of 3cm slab.

Mastic or Mortar?  Mastic is premixed and sets faster making it a good choice for a vertical surface.

Dark or Lighter? Use a contrasting group color, such as charcoal against white. Tiles will stand out and accentuate a pattern.

HERE’S WHAT’S NEW IN KITCHEN DESIGN

For those people who like to feel current by following trends, there’s a lot going on in kitchen design to bring excitement and newness to this most productive room in your home.  As an interior designer, I am bombarded with new options for materials, finishes and other ideas this time of year. If you are ready to try something new, consider the following: Matte Black & Grey Finishes. via houzz Kitchen Sink --   What’s “in” now is concrete, stone, copper and granite composite sinks in darker hues of gray, bronze or black. (see picture above) Last year , satin brass made its debut in kitchens and that trend continues in other interior spaces. This finish looks amazing against almost any color and when mixed with other finishes creates an eclectic look. In 2018, look for matte black in baths as well. If you are looking for a statement-making look that is both contemporary and complementary with a variety of materials and styles, embrace this versatile finish. Brass -

Useful ideas on choosing a bookcase

Du interiors  Bookcases can be classical, fanciful, functional and personal …they really add to the anatomy of a room. They display your favorite reads as well as framed memories. There are so many options on deciding on the best for your nest. Here are important considerations. What Size Should Your Bookcase Be? The most basic consideration is size. How much space do you have in the room you have in mind? If space is ample, wide bookcases that measure several feet across are a good design idea. However, if room is small, go up! Taller bookcases work in space limitations, if you plan on placing a lot on them. Otherwise, one or more small bookcases would work.  Measure the room before you shop. What Type of Bookcase Do You Want? If you need inspiration, we suggest checking out houzz.com , Pinterest, Instagram, and so forth. There are so many choices on the market. What is Your Budget? Prices range from several hundred dollars to thousands if you want a custom built-in. If yo
