New ideas to glamorize old baths

I have spent years dreaming about remodeling my two bathrooms. Finally, I have come to the point of saying "goodbye" to the old and "hello" to the new.
What better place to get design ideas than the Internet site, houzz.com. Not only is this site inspiring but it allows me to see what other designers around the world are doing.
I found some standout features!

  • A favorite is the narrow wall-mounted shelf, makeup counter with mirror above. Perfect for glamorizing a small bath for yourself or overnight guests.

  •    A vanity that looks like furniture is elegant. Instead of the vanity going wall-to-wall with backsplash all around, here is space between the vanity and two side walls with a backslash only on the back wall.

  •   Removing most of the wall here opens up the space and makes the bath look bigger. A great idea, if you have a wall and pocket door leading into the tub/toilet area. The trim is beautiful and adds a finished touch.

  • We expect to find towel bars in hotels but now we are seeing them in homes. The dual function - top shelf for towels or clothes and bar on bottom to hang items are great to have for small baths.

Finally, here are features I want to include in my own very small bath remodel:

  • Medicine cabinets with built-n electrical outlets to keep toothbrush chargers and shavers out of sight! High on MY list!  There are so many stylish options these days but having personal items hidden and still accessible gets my vote. It makes for clutter-free countertops and neater drawers.

  • Wall-mounted faucet. I like this streamlined look and having fewer objects to clean on the countertop.

One more thing. Do you, like me, like to have a pullout spray nozzle faucet on bath sink? So convenient if you want to wash your hair without taking a shower at the same time. So easy to clean up after!

What would you like on your list? I can help you find it.

Quarry Lake kitchen reveal

Hello again! My message to you this month centers on a goal – to update a kitchen without changing its bones, the kitchen cabinets or countertops. We were up to the challenge! As you know, what an interior designer does is reveal concepts that might not be obvious but make such a big difference. The short version is that we relocated the TV into the living room so this family of four and a lovely dog could hang out there more often …since the space was not used much. (I will share the new living room space with you in the future. In this message, it’s about the kitchen). ©Elle M Photography ©Elle M Photography Moving the TV created a gathering space that was inviting and cozy and closer to the kitchen/island area. Everyone likes to be near the food! Paint is a wonderful way to create change.  The kitchen cabinets set the tone and, fortunately, this family is not afraid of bringing color into their home.
