New ideas for first-home buyers

New ideas for first-home buyers

Summer is the time of year when people venture forth to find and buy their first home and my phone starts ringing.
What to watch out for? What clever ideas could I offer?
They want to watch their finances but they also want to showcase their personal style.

This blog is my way of sharing decorating and furniture ideas so that you create wonderful spaces in your new home – be it a house, a townhouse or an apartment you are leasing.

Take a look at what you already have. If it isn’t something you are THAT in love with, refinishing or repainting can give you the modern look you want.
For example, you can transform an ordinary dining room table just with high gloss finish paint, or use natural-stain finishes or reclaimed wood combined with simple iron hardware to transform an old coffee table. This latter idea would give you a modern farm house/industrial look that designers are talking about.

What you SHOULD do is invest on pieces that provide comfort and durability for daily use, like your family room upholstery pieces. If you aren’t ready to invest in a high-quality sofa, wait until you can.
Meanwhile large throws or slipcovers and coordinated pillows can keep you happy for quite a while.

There is nothing like pillows to spice up any seating area or bedroom for minimal expense.

MIRRORS are a personal favorite of mine. They enlarge rooms and add light.

RUGS are another favorite to add color, texture and personality. Either area rugs on wood floors or wall-to-wall can achieve what you wish. Easy to maintain with your vacuum. I can help you with size suggestions and style. Ring me up!

Mix your books with few personal accessories to showcase your personal style.

Settling in to a new home is a hassle for many people, especially if they are working full-time and raising a family or retirees who would rather travel than spend time in stores. This is where I come in.
I can steer you away from costly mistakes, help you decide on an interesting stain for the floor, or a variety of kitchen cabinets. I can show you how to add new accessories to personalize your rooms.
While you attend to your priorities, I can save you time and money.

Speaking of investment: I offer many different ways to serve you as your interior designer. It can start with a two hour consultation and you can take it from there, or if you would like full service we can work with whatever amount of investment dollars you have, from small to large.
I invite you to check, DU interiors website/Houzz profile/Pinterest boards for ideas. I so enjoy working with people to bring pleasure into their homes.

Congratulations, new home buyers!

HERE’S WHAT’S NEW IN KITCHEN DESIGN

For those people who like to feel current by following trends, there’s a lot going on in kitchen design to bring excitement and newness to this most productive room in your home.  As an interior designer, I am bombarded with new options for materials, finishes and other ideas this time of year. If you are ready to try something new, consider the following: Matte Black & Grey Finishes. via houzz Kitchen Sink --   What’s “in” now is concrete, stone, copper and granite composite sinks in darker hues of gray, bronze or black. (see picture above) Last year , satin brass made its debut in kitchens and that trend continues in other interior spaces. This finish looks amazing against almost any color and when mixed with other finishes creates an eclectic look. In 2018, look for matte black in baths as well. If you are looking for a statement-making look that is both contemporary and complementary with a variety of materials and styles, embrace this versatile finish. Brass -

Useful ideas on choosing a bookcase

Du interiors  Bookcases can be classical, fanciful, functional and personal …they really add to the anatomy of a room. They display your favorite reads as well as framed memories. There are so many options on deciding on the best for your nest. Here are important considerations. What Size Should Your Bookcase Be? The most basic consideration is size. How much space do you have in the room you have in mind? If space is ample, wide bookcases that measure several feet across are a good design idea. However, if room is small, go up! Taller bookcases work in space limitations, if you plan on placing a lot on them. Otherwise, one or more small bookcases would work.  Measure the room before you shop. What Type of Bookcase Do You Want? If you need inspiration, we suggest checking out houzz.com , Pinterest, Instagram, and so forth. There are so many choices on the market. What is Your Budget? Prices range from several hundred dollars to thousands if you want a custom built-in. If yo
