For those people who like to feel
current by following trends, there’s a lot going on in kitchen design to bring
excitement and newness to this most productive room in your home.
As an interior designer, I am bombarded
with new options for materials, finishes and other ideas this time of year. If
you are ready to try something new, consider the following:
Matte Black & Grey Finishes.

Kitchen Sink -- What’s “in” now is concrete, stone, copper and granite composite sinks in darker hues of gray, bronze or black. (see picture above)
Last year, satin brass made its debut in kitchens and that trend continues in other interior spaces. This finish looks amazing against almost any color and when mixed with other finishes creates an eclectic look. In 2018, look for matte black in baths as well. If you are looking for a statement-making look that is both contemporary and complementary with a variety of materials and styles, embrace this versatile finish.

Mixing Metals and Sheen.
Think shiny brass mixed with matte black
steel, or a honed countertop with matte tile backsplash is one of my favorites
for kitchen or bathroom.

Color, Color, Color!
While it is true that white will always
be a classic palette for the kitchen, we are now seeing a rise in color,
especially neutrals such as gray and blue. Warm wood tones (flat panel doors)
are a popular replacement for painted cabinets, leading to refined, rich
palettes.

Kitchen s with Dining Table
Not everyone favors big islands, especially
for family meals. More people, especially those with smaller kitchens, are
using a traditional dining table instead of an island.

Tile
New tiles look like wood, concrete, resin, fabric or wallpaper. The latter is prized for offering the elaborate pattern look of modern-day wallpapers while also being durable to wipe down with a sponge and detergent.

Hidden Range Hoods
You can make a statement in your kitchen
with range hoods. In compact spaces, however, you do not want another bulky
appliance. Instead, consider hiding a hood behind elegant cabinetry. It will
give your kitchen a simplified and elegant look.
