It's about texture at the Street of Dreams houses 2016!

Texture is the mix of materials that create eye appeal and can even be sensuous! Part two of my Street of Dreams blog for my readers includes more ideas and inspirational photos to show how texture enhances a room. It can be subtle or fiercely dramatic! In this photo elegant champagne subway tile adds shine to the room. Unique tile shapes of gray give a unique look to this fireplace.   Grass weave shades that are layered with a beautiful sheers drape is a well-designed look for this window.   The frameless glass shower door and wood textured subway tile are an interesting trend. Compliments to the tile setter for outstanding work!   Not only is texture a standout in this master bedroom but the drapes that hang all the way from the ceiling creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Yes, you can mix woods and finishes. From the stained pine ceiling to the beautiful basket weave wallpaper and yummy carpet, texture ...

Dream Houses!

Enjoy these wonderful ideas from Dream Houses! The incredible homes in this year's Northwest Natural Street of Dreams are some of the best I have ever toured in my 15 years as an interior designer, particularly the setting in a vineyard overlooking the majestic Mt. Hood. I have been to many home tours in the United States and other countries during those years.  Here I am showcasing interior design highlights with the help of Shelly Pinnock of Elle M. Photography. To die for!  Lighted Wall Sconces on the fireplace and attractive wood floor. Marvelous oversized chandelier plus integrated indoor/outdoors. Amazing craftsmanship on the wall. Yes, you can incorporate different trim colors! It's in the elegant  details -- compatible color/materials in varied sizes and layout. Glass door that turns into an awning when open. Great example of scale and proportion -- large cha...

Travel photos as artwork

Iceland 2016 Walter Morales photography Taking photos when we travel is one of our pleasures because we are building memories. However, if you are married to a man like my husband, an avid photographer whose photos are a work of art, then creating a Travel Photo Wall is an irresistible project. The Wall was his suggestion and I couldn’t wait to share this idea with you. Normally, in our family, we just look at our travel photos on our computers and iPhones. But now we have a new approach. We are enthusiastic travellers and are adding some of our travel photos from recent trips as artwork in our home, particularly when we have a large wall to display them on. We now have three wall galleries and when I walk by them the photos bring back so many fond memories. They are a constant reminder of all the amazing places we have visited (Iceland, more recently) and the good times we had. As an interior designer, I believe travel photos are one of the best ways to expres...

Refreshing Coastal Hues Add Relaxing Mood to Family-Friendly Space!

Lets not forget the baby! The goal for this project in Tigard was to create a relaxed style, provide continuity and balance and to maximize functionality for the family lifestyle. What was lacking for this young family of four was a comfortable space in which to gather and relax together..... The kitchen, casual dining area and large family room comprised an open space. My role was to make that space balanced and beautiful, but casual, functional and comfortable. A color palette was chosen that included the owner’s new red sectional and two leather chairs.  Before picture I introduced blue, seafoam and crisp, white materials like warm reclaimed wood, recycled glass and rope for an inviting, coastal mood and style. My client had purchased a beautiful paint that was used as the inspiration for the color palette. The inspiration! A larger size area rug was purchased to balance the large sectional.  Dressers that flank t...

Welcome! If you want to catch up on this blog, Part One will give you interior design ideas for current kitchen trends.    If you are thinking of renovating your kitchen this summer here are some considerations when selecting cabinets if you are on a budget. As we age, drawers are better than rummaging through those dark depths in the back. Fewer doors and more drawers is the mantra! Redu interior design & 8 Inch Nails Construction Ink  Elle M Photography Compare door styles and have a style in mind when you visit your local cabinet shop. If your goal is saving money, it’s best to have two or three options and compare costs. Door styles can make a dramatic difference in price. http://www.huntwood.com/product-choices/doors Raised panel and inset door styles will almost always cost more. Shaker-style doors often cost less. Prices can vary based on the manufacturer. HTTP://WWW.MARTHASTEWART.COM/1046449/NEW-BRASS#1046414 PHOTOGRAPHY: E...

Styling a coffee table!

March  has been the month of “Interior Styling” for Du interiors. It is the season for change. Our mail is packed with magazine ideas. So many friends and clients are asking for help styling their home. There are basic rules to style coffee tables. You can follow these guidelines to accessorize any horizontal surface on your home (console table, end table, nightstand, fire place mantel, etc.). The rule of 3!   Styling a coffee table can be easy if you are including these three elements: Horizontal element , use a tray ( to organize all the elements) including a stack of books.  Vertical elements, like vases (natural elements  to add color and bring the outdoors in) , or candle holders/candlesticks (add ambiance such as a fresh scent to the room) . Last, an object! (Decorative accent) . The right object in an arrangement not only bridges the horizontal and vertical planes, but it is often the most interesting item, sparking conversation among guests...
