Hello again!
We introduced a darker blue-grey (SW 6228) paint for the windows trim that blended with the kitchen cabinets and island. We felt this color was warmer and more inviting, setting a cheerful tone for this happy foursome.
The family wall gallery, hand-knotted area rug from NW Rugs, the mid-century inspired chairs from West Elm and reclaimed wood accent tables are now charmingly warm.

My message to you this month centers on a goal – to update a kitchen without changing its bones, the kitchen cabinets or countertops. We were up to the challenge!
As you know, what an interior designer does is reveal concepts that might not be obvious but make such a big difference.
The short version is that we relocated the TV into the living room so this family of four and a lovely dog could hang out there more often …since the space was not used much.
(I will share the new living room space with you in the future. In this message, it’s about the kitchen).

Moving the TV created a gathering space that was inviting and cozy and closer to the kitchen/island area. Everyone likes to be near the food!
Paint is a wonderful way to create change. The kitchen cabinets set the tone and, fortunately, this family is not afraid of bringing color into their home. The SW 9134 Delft gloss paint is the wow factor here.

We wanted to also introduce white and chose white glaze backsplash tiles and white walls (SW 7005 Pure White). This approach really pops with the granite counters.
The kitchen opens
onto a small dining nook. We didn’t change furniture but we added an original
watercolor from the family’s travels above the window to add some drama.

We installed
custom made wall-mounted bookcases aside the fireplace that we felt made the
space more open and light, plus creating warmth and style to the family room.
Accessorizing
adds personality to wardrobes and rooms. We put meaningful items on the
bookcase. The homeowners were particularly excited about Deni Porter’s
watercolor portraits of their dogs. Of course, no shelf is complete without
books and art.

We styled the kitchen area with their collection of cookbooks and used their soapstone bowl to display a rock collection.
The family wall gallery, hand-knotted area rug from NW Rugs, the mid-century inspired chairs from West Elm and reclaimed wood accent tables are now charmingly warm.
A combination of dark stained wood floor and black and nickel finishes added modern, clean lines.
